BUILD DAILY LEARNING HABITS
Have you ever tried to learn a language through Duolingo? If you have, you’d understand the guilt of seeing the daily reminders to do a five minute lesson, and ignoring it. You think, “I’ll just do it tomorrow”, but of course, tomorrow never comes around. The next thing you know, you’ve just about forgotten everything. The app doesn’t remind you to annoy you, but rather, build daily habits for you to gain the most out of your lessons.
True learning is created through repetition and we think it's crucial that you build daily habits into your routine. Whether you’re a student, or a business owner trying to train your staff, the best way to retain knowledge is to be consistent. E-learning can be a great way to incorporate daily learning habits into your routine.
The most important thing to do to build daily learning habits is to schedule time to learn! If you set aside a dedicated block of time to incorporate into your daily routine, it becomes a lot easier to stick to your learning goals. Habits stick better when you have an allotted time to do your tasks. Using the Duolingo example, the app generally sends out a notification at the same time. The purpose of this is to attempt to help you create a habit of learning during a specific time slot, in order to subconsciously ingrain it into your routine. Something as simple as a reminder on your phone can help you remember to stick to your schedule - no excuses!
If simply scheduling time for you isn’t enough to ensure that you learn every day, looking into interactive e-learning resources may help you stay engaged and focused. Many e-learning resources, such as Compozer, offer interactive tools, such as quizzes and simulations. These can help you stay engaged and reinforce your learning. If you’re creating e-learning courses for students or employees, it's important to remember to embed interactivity, so they can truly retain the information and perform to their maximum capability!
Another great way to maintain motivation and create daily habits is to set yourself some goals. Setting specific goals for your e-learning, such as completing a course or mastering a new skill will help you stay motivated and focused. As an educator or business, a fun way to keep your learners focused would be to hand out small badges or prizes as an incentivised reward to maintain motivation - and who doesn’t love a prize?
Something you should never do is forget to track your progress as you complete your e-learning tasks. This will help you understand how much you have learned and what you still need to work on. As you start to see the progress you have made, you will feel more confident in your abilities, which will likely act as a great source of reassurance. It can also act as motivation to keep learning as you view your strengths and weaknesses! A way that I track my progress is highlighting subjects that I have successfully understood in green, and highlighting subjects that need work as red. I find that visual aid is a great way to track your progress.
Lastly, remember that learning cannot be achieved in an instant. It requires time, dedication and patience. Implementing daily learning habits is one of the best ways to ensure that you’re learning in an easy and stress-free way, while actually recalling the information you have been given. This idea can be used by both students and businesses, as the main goal here is education and creating efficient learning spaces. Remember to set your reminders and get cracking!
